The Trump administration requested that the U.S. Supreme Court allow the immediate implementation of new U.S. Postal Service (USPS) regulations for mail-in ballots in an emergency application submitted Thursday. 

In August, President Donald Trump signed an executive order designed to protect mail ballot access and prevent voter fraud. The USPS rules would mandate that states attach a unique barcode to every distributed ballot containing fundamental voter details, including name and residential address. Postal employees would deliver ballots exclusively to individuals listed on the state-supplied registry under the new rule. 

A temporary restraining order blocking the regulations is scheduled to end Sept. 10, though it may be prolonged indefinitely. A ruling from a federal district court judge is expected shortly.
