Big Egg to Pay $3.3 Million Price Gouging Settlement
Most news followers know about America’s most ferocious industries. Groups like Big Tech, Big Pharma, and Big Oil.
But what about Big Egg?
Three of America’s largest egg producers have reached a settlement with the DOJ and 17 states that will require them to pay $3.3 million for artificially inflating their prices. The firms – Cal-Maine Foods, Versova, and Hickman’s Egg Ranch – will also donate 53 million eggs, millions of which will go to food banks.
A recent DOJ investigation found that the companies spent between 2022 and 2025 secretly communicating with each other to inflate the daily egg price index. In one email, Hickman’s CEO messaged Versova and Cal-Maine executives to urge them to submit “strong bids, early and often” to boost the cost of the grocery staple. This happened as Americans suffered under Bidenflation.
